Way over 30 tons of plastic waste saved

Jan 23, 2020

Seidensticker deliveries will be plastic-free starting in 2020.

The Bielefeld-based shirt and blouse specialist Seidensticker is starting the year with more sustainability, and has opted for reducing the use of plastic and for environmentally friendly packaging alternatives. As part of the company’s in-house sustainability strategy, the Autumn/Winter 2020 season for all collections will be delivered without plastic packaging materials, thus saving more than 30 tons of plastic waste each year.

“We see it as our responsibility and a considerable component of our corporate activity to commit to the lowest possible environmental impact and fair working conditions. As part of our sustainability strategy, and as a member of several sustainability initiatives, we want to make an even greater commitment to these important themes in order to contribute towards preserving this world for future generations,” says Gerd Oliver Seidensticker, managing partner of the Seidensticker Group.

As a member of the Partnership for Sustainable Textiles, Seidensticker having been elected to its steering committee in 2015, the Seidensticker Group recently contributed towards two partnership initiatives. These initiatives concern the enforcement of living wages in each of the production countries, as well as complaint procedures for employees on-site to prevent social injustice.

In addition to this, Seidensticker has been a member of the “Better Cotton Initiative” since the beginning of 2019. The goal is to manufacture 100 percent of branded products with sustainable cotton. This currently already applies to a good 20 percent of collections. Since September, the company has also been GOTS certified, setting an example for environmentally-friendly and socially responsible textile production in a real way.
